Come this Tuesday, Aug. 28th and be part of our photo opportunity, giving a large cheque to Grimsby Mayor Bob Bentley, proceeds of our Mayor's Charity Gala, which in 2012 benefits Second Stage Housing.

Last Tuesday, we had an emotional presentation by Laurie Flasko, speaking about how her daughter was bullied, and how it affected them.  To outline the lessons learned on their journey, she has written a book: Bullying is Not a Game: A Parents' Survival Guide.  Our board will consider sponsoring her presentation at local secondary schools or parents groups as part of our "Peace through Service" goal.  Check out her website:

Last week we also had an informal visit from Rick Sterne and he invited us to attend the upcoming District Conference October 12-14 in Brantford Ontario.

We were pleased to welcome Lisa Bos as a New Member!   It is part of Rotary International's goal to increase membership by 3% so be sure to invite a friend when you can!

We owe a big Thank you to Peter Kelly for updating our Member Roster - please let him know if you have changed your personal or contact information.

Ross McCallum was awarded with Multiple Paul Harris Fellow pin with three rubies.  Donors of certain amounts to the Annual Programs Fund, PolioPlus, or the Humanitarian Grants Program, can be recognized as Paul Harris Fellows.  We are thankful that Ross has contributed significantly to Rotary International.   The more our club gives to Rotary Foundation, the more funding we receive for our local Paul Harris awards.   Check out the downloadable News Release about Rotary challanging world governments to tackle polio at the United Nations General Assembly.

Rotary Foundation is changing, and as part of the qualification requirement for The Rotary Foundation Future Vision all clubs are required to have at least 2 members attend the Future Vision meeting on Saturday September 29th, 2012 so that the club remains eligible for District and Global Grants.  Please let us know if you would like to attend.

We are having a Board Meeting Tues Aug. 28 at 11:00 am at Judge and Jester and will plan to put together the 2012/13 budget at that meeting. Included in these discussions will be our sponsorship of the Rotary Park on Central Ave and potential other Rotary sponsorships or activities that we would like to support (eg. Grimsby Splashpad, Rotary RYLA, Habitat for Humanity etc). We are also looking for ideas and volunteers for a fall fundraising event - ideas that have been raised to date include outdoor movie night, trivia night, Octoberfest dance, garage sale, Christmas concert or reading. Other ideas are welcome.

Please mark your calendar for the District Governor's Official visit Tues. Nov 27, with a Board meeting at 11 that day.

If you have not yet paid your Annual Dues, they are now past due since the new Rotary year started July 1st. Please submit a cheque payable to Grimsby Rotary @ Noon for $150 to our Treasurer Jim VanRoon.

Each Member is on a pod to contribute to the running of the weekly meetings including programs /speakers. This Pod schedule is on our website. If you have program or speaker ideas, please feed them to your pod leader to co-ordinate the times. We would like to announce speakers and programs as early as possible. Often if you know the program in advance, it is easier to invite a friend.  Jim VanRoon is pod leader co-ordinating the September programs, together with his pod, including Sean, Pam, Darsh, Heinz and Tim.  We are still looking for ideas for September 25th.  Ross is pod leader for October programs/speakers, so his group, including Paul, Peter, Maria, Lisa, and Craig, should feed their program ideas to Ross.  Check out our website for the upcoming speakers and meeting programs.

See you @Noon!
