We were thrilled to host local Grimsby resident Gillian Cruz as our guest speaker on April 16th @Noon. Gillian started by telling us about how she was diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis (MS) in her early 20s, and took us through her journey of depression and treatments and trials, to the secret of living with gratitude, and the hope that she has received by participating in wheelchair tennis. She also found that there are very few wheelchair tennis tournaments in our local region, mostly due to lack of funding. Gillian got busy, and is working with a tournament committee to create the 2019 Janco Steel Wheelchair Tennis Classic, an international wheelchair tennis tournament to be held June 18th – 21st, 2019 in Grimsby, Ontario. Now three local clubs, Grimsby Rotary @Noon, The Rotary Club of Grimsby, and Rotary Club of St. Catharines, are co-operating to sponsor meals for the wheelchair athletes.
